Our Breeding Philosophy
At Willow Gate Cattery, our philosophy is simple: to raise healthy, happy, and well-socialized cats and kittens who bring lasting joy, companionship, and beauty into their future homes.
We are dedicated to the preservation and thoughtful development of traditional Siamese, Balinese, Snowshoe, and American Polydactyl (Hemingway Variant 1) lines. Each pairing is carefully planned with attention to health, temperament, structure, and breed integrity, ensuring that every kitten reflects the qualities we value most.
Health is the foundation of everything we do. All of our breeding cats undergo comprehensive DNA testing and are clear of currently known genetic predispositions (50+), giving both families and fellow breeders confidence in the strength and responsibility of our program. In addition, our kittens receive age-appropriate veterinary care, vaccinations, and ongoing health monitoring before joining their new homes.
We place a strong emphasis on temperament, selecting breeding cats known for their affectionate, social, and stable personalities. Our kittens are raised in our home, where they are handled daily and exposed to children, other animals, and the rhythms of everyday life. This early environment helps develop the confident, people-oriented companions that Siamese and related breeds are known for.
We believe in intentional and limited breeding. Our queens have carefully planned litters with time to rest and thrive between them, allowing us to prioritize their well-being and the quality of each kitten we raise.
As part of our commitment to the future of these breeds, we thoughtfully consider genetic diversity, including strategic outcrossing when appropriate. Our goal is not only to preserve the traditional beauty and personality of these cats, but also to support their long-term health and sustainability — including the continuation of meaningful traits such as those found in the Hemingway lineage.
We are equally committed to responsible placement. Each kitten is placed with care, matching personality and home to ensure lifelong success. Pet kittens are placed with spay/neuter agreements, while breeding rights are offered selectively to approved programs that share our values.
At Willow Gate Cattery, our responsibility does not end at placement. We provide lifetime support to our families and remain a resource for guidance and care. We also believe in lifelong accountability and will always accept the return of a cat we have bred if circumstances ever change.
